Class Descriptions

Here you will find descriptions for the latest class offerings from the CHRISTUS Health & Wellness Center.

20/20/20
This class offers three segments of cardio, strength and core based formats that can change every week. Each segment will be approximately 20 minutes long. If you like variety, then you will love the spontaneity of this class. Fusing together intensities and different types of exercises create intervals and variations that shock your body into getting more fit!

Aqua 20/20/20
20 minute segments in the pool of each format cardio, strength, and flexibility.  If you like variety, then you will love the spontaneity of this class.

Aqua Cardio Curves
Move your body in a water-based circuit to get optimal results.

Aqua C.S.I.
Aquatic Cardio, Strength, and Interval work will keep you moving, burning calories, building strength for the whole hour.

Aqua Dynamics
Put the water to work for you in this high energy, dynamic workout that will help you to improve both balance and flexibility.

Aqua Fun Day
Enjoy fun music, tubes, weights, and a mix of equipment as you engage your core with Pilates inspired movements and tabata intervals in the water.

Aqua Motion
Keep your body moving with this creative workout geared to tone the whole body with cardio, core, and balance work.

Aqua Resistance
Jump in for a total body strength and endurance workout using a combination of handheld weights and water resistance.

Athletic Step
Similar to a traditional step class with more focus on simplifying the movements to enhance the athletic training component; less intricate choreography will allow you to perform basic movements with more power, depth and height to use the step as a "training tool" to a fitter you! Add in core strengthening intervals and you will definitely leave this class feeling strong.

Athletic Cross Training
This fast-paced class takes you through cardio and strength training exercises with relatively brief rest intervals. Keep the heart rate elevated near the aerobic level to ensure fast, dramatic fitness results

Barbell Strength
Build strength, tone muscles, and perfect form in this non-aerobic full body workout using barbells to train all major muscle groups. Class size is limited to 15 so please sign up online or in the HWC mobile app.

Barre Fitness
If you are looking to build long, lean muscle this is the class for you!  A comprehensive total body workout that lifts your seat, tones your thighs, abs and arms, and burns fat in record-breaking time. While primarily working these muscles, we always maintain core stability and whole body alignment, making every exercise a full body exercise.  Barre is a great way to tone muscles and burn calories.  Muscles are worked to the point of fatigue and then released through stretching movements to create long, lean muscles.

Body Focus
Increase functional flexibility, joint stability, balance, coordination, agility, muscular strength and cardiovascular endurance. The workout combines aerobic, flexibility and resistance (strength) training using hand-held weights, elastic tubing, and a variety of props. Class is suitable for all levels and ages.

Choreo Step
Choreo Step uses an adjustable platform in order to increase aerobic endurance. It is a high intensity class that consists of intricate choreography. Try out new choreography every 3-4 weeks in this class designed to get your heart rate up and keep it at a steady pace for the entire session.

Classic Step
A classic is back! You’ll burn calories and shape your body with varied, but never complex, choreography. Straddles and repeaters, V-steps and marches, step touches and knee lifts — this class features all your step favorites, making it fun with tempo variations and directional changes. This class can help you increase your strength, lose body fat, and gain cardiovascular endurance! All levels of fitness are welcome. You can even do the moves without a Step!

Core Values
Our core values in this gentle class are Strength, Balance, and Flexibility.  Appropriate for older adults, beginning exercise participants and pre/post-natal women who would like to include a low-intensity, low-impact workout in their fitness plans. Each class includes an aerobic conditioning and stretching segment with the optional support of a chair. Music for this class may include big band, classical, swing, and oldies but goodies.

Cycle Blast
See consistent results while burning calories and improving cardiovascular fitness in this high energy class incorporating a quick plyometric or strength workout within your ride to boost your intensity.  Whether you're a beginner or avid cyclist this class is for you - it's coached to all levels!

Fit Yoga
A strong discipline including breath control, simple meditation, and the adoption of specific bodily postures, widely practiced for strength, health and relaxation. A regular yoga practice will help transform both your mind and body ultimately helping you find an inner calmness/peace, enhance your balance and stability, and leave you feeling stronger and more centered.

Hatha Yoga
Hatha Yoga is designed for students with a variety of needs who are looking for a safe place to experience the multiple benefits of yoga. Benefits include increased flexibility, greater sense of balance, moderate strengthening, and the ability to be present with your breath. The class is lead at a pace that suits those who may need extra time or assistance in moving in and out of the poses but can also challenge the more experienced yogi. Postures can be adapted for a variety of health conditions.

HIIT 60
HIIT 60 is a full hour of total body, heart pumping, aerobic and strength conditioning. This interval-based class combines full-body strength training with high intensity cardio bursts designed to tone your body, improve your endurance. Modifications for all fitness levels are provided.

Hydro Strength
Raise your exercise capacity in this aquatics class utilizing power moves to strengthen and tone.

Kickboxing
This class is a combination of cardio, boxing and marital arts providing a total body workout which aims to improve strength, aerobic fitness, speed, flexibility, coordination and balance. Come try one of the most popular fitness trends and kick, jab, cross, hook and uppercut your way to a fitter you!

Kettlebell Functions NEW! (Fridays @ Noon)
Learn how you can get an amazing workout with this single piece of equipment. Get a better understating how your body moves and functions with an emphasis on balance, strength, and cardio.

Mat Pilates
This mat workout is based on techniques developed by Joseph Pilates which includes concentrated work on core strength, body alignment and muscular balance. The overall goal of Pilates is to lengthen and tone the muscles of the core without adding bulk. If you are looking for that long, lean dancer body this is the class for you!

Muscle Conditioning
Work your muscles in every way possible in this 75 minute class designed to build strength, add definition, increase your bone density, and decrease your body fat by increasing your lean muscle. Research has proven that by adding lean muscle to the body you can speed up your metabolism and burn more calories when you work out and at rest. You will use a variety of equipment to change the shape of your body. No muscle gets neglected in this class!

Muscle Conditioning Plus
Work your muscles in every way possible in this 90 minute class designed to build strength, add definition, increase your bone density, and decrease your body fat by increasing your lean muscle. Research has proven that by adding lean muscle to the body you can speed up your metabolism and burn more calories when you work out and at rest. You will use a variety of equipment to change the shape of your body. No muscle gets neglected in this class!

Muscle Mix
This class is a great way to combine strength and endurance using a mix of fitness techniques to keep your body challenged. This non- stop blend of strength and cardio exercises is just right when you're looking for results!

MYZONE Spin
Bring your MYZONE belt if you have one (you CAN still participate without!) to this heart rate based training ride.  Learn about heart rate maximums, recovery and put your training plan into action.

Power Abs
This 45 minute Pilates inspired class offers the perfect core strengthening solution. Concentrated abdominal and core floor-work is paired with deep restorative stretching to improve your posture and alignment, increase endurance and flexibility and create a balanced overall strength.

Power Pilates
Get the benefits of a traditional mat method Pilates class but at a faster pace and more advanced level. Use resistance bands with some exercises to increase intensity. Strengthen your abs and burn fat as you lengthen and tone your muscles and increase your flexibility.

Restore
Restore is a practice of gentle flow combined with deliberate stillness. In this class, we will settle into some supported floor while releasing tension, gently breathing, and allowing gravity to draw us towards the steadiness of the earth underneath. All of the organ systems in the body are benefited during deep relaxation, and a few of the measurable results of deep relaxation are the reduction of blood pressure, stress-hormone levels, serum triglycerides and blood sugar levels, the increase of the “good cholesterol” levels, as well as improvement in digestion, fertility, elimination, the reduction of muscle tension, insomnia, anxiety, and generalized fatigue. This style of yoga provides a time for BEING instead of DOING. This class is a practice of actively cultivating the attitude of letting go and will help teach you to learn how to deeply relax.

Shred
Shred calories as you increase power, strength, and stamina in this high energy combination class.  Spin, row, and work your way toward a better you.

Spinning ®
Invented by cycling and fitness class pioneer Johnny G, Spinning® is a high energy 45 minute indoor cycling class led by a motivating instructor and accompanied by the instructor's unique playlist of powerful and energizing music. Spinning® is challenging, fun, and one of the best ways to improve cardiovascular fitness while burning lots of calories. Because Spinning® is low impact it is suitable for most people, and our classes can accommodate all ability levels.

Spin ® Intervals
This cycling class will focus on speed, strength, tempo, and timing while incorporating strength and toning drills for complete strength, endurance, and core training.

Step Challenge
Step Challenge is a high intensity step class utilizing the latest step choreography and rhythm-based patterns. Try out new choreography every 3-4 weeks in this class designed to get your heart rate up and keep it at a steady pace for the duration of the class.

Surg (Cycling)
This take on indoor cycling incorporates principles of isometrics with cardio blasting, high intensity fun! For a full hour, Ride & Define brings together your favorite muscle-toning movements with high-energy music on a stationary bike for a full body workout.

Tabata
The Tabata protocol is a high-intensity training regimen that produces remarkable results. A Tabata workout is interval training of 20 seconds of maximum intensity exercise followed by 10 seconds of rest repeated without pause 8 times for a total of four minutes. The types of exercise vary, lifts, jumps, running squats and core training to name a few. Round time lengths may vary however the concept of Tabata is maintained in this 45 minute class.

Total Body Blast
Blast your fitness level through the roof with a full class of the best cardio training! Alternating days you may do kickboxing, step, high/low impact, or sports conditioning – but bottom line, you will challenge your aerobic and anaerobic thresholds every time. Come prepared to sweat, breathe hard and get super fit!

Total Body Blast Plus
Blast your fitness level through the roof with a full class of the best cardio training! Alternating days you may do kickboxing, step, high/low impact, or sports conditioning – but bottom line, you will challenge your aerobic and anaerobic thresholds every time. Come prepared to sweat, breathe hard and get super fit!

Triple Threat
Three dynamite formats packed into one intense class. Cardio bursts keep the calories burning; segments of pure strength training keep you toned, and finish with a mindful stretch for the total cross training effect. This fun class is something everyone can look forward to!

Water Works
Use the water’s resistance for quality results.  Great for anyone needing a low impact option.

Yoga
A morning yoga class to help awaken and rejuvenate your body for the rest of the day. Come enjoy the sensation of starting your day off with a sense of peace, calmness, strength, energy and revitalization!

Yoga Flow
In Yoga Flow, we come into the breath and quiet the mind as we find steadiness in asana and attain increased balance and an enhanced connection to our self. Each class provides personal modifications and emphasizes integrating mind, body, energy, and breath–all within a playful, supportive environment. All levels of practice are welcome.

Yoga Stretch
Yoga Stretch is a relaxing, 30 minute series of stretches inspired by yoga to help you with your flexibility, range of motion, balance and posture. This is a great class for any fitness level, or a great warm up for Pilates.

Zumba ®
Ditch the workout and join the party! This fun and easy to follow cardio dance class combines high-energy and motivating Latin music with unique moves and combinations that make you feel like you are partying on the dance floor.  A total workout, combining all elements of fitness – cardio, muscle conditioning, balance and flexibility, boosted energy and a serious dose of awesome each time you leave class.

Zumba ® Fitness
Ditch the workout and join the party! This fun and easy to follow cardio dance class combines high-energy and motivating Latin music with unique moves and combinations that make you feel like you are partying on the dance floor.  A total workout, combining all elements of fitness – cardio, muscle conditioning, balance and flexibility, boosted energy and a serious dose of awesome each time you leave class.

Zumba Gold ®
ZUMBA® GOLD uses the same great Zumba formula; we add a longer warm up and cool down to allow participants a program that improves balance, flexibility and cardiovascular strength with its unique program. Zumba Gold was designed to teach the basic dance steps to anyone. Zumba Gold provides an appropriate workout for those just beginning a fitness program.
