Class Descriptions

Here you will find descriptions for the latest class offerings from the CHRISTUS Health & Wellness Center.

Aqua 20/20/20

20 minute segments in the pool of each format cardio, strength, and flexibility.  If you like variety, then you will love the spontaneity of this class.

Aqua Cardio

Use the resistance of the water to improve cardiovascular fitness, full body results. This class is a great option for anyone wanting a low impact workout.

Aqua Cardio Fit

Aqua Cardio Fit is a high intensity class that improves cardiovascular endurance, muscle tone, and flexibility while using the resistance of the water. Exercises are performed to upbeat music and are effective and easy to follow.

Aqua Dance (HIIT)

Aqua Dance (HIIT) is a total body workout mixing Tabata and Dance with awesome music and less impact on your joints! The Aqua Dance section is low-impact, high-energy dance moves.
The Aqua Tabata section is low-impact, high-intensity interval training.
The water creates natural resistance, so every move can challenge and tone your muscles. We will use aqua resistant equipment throughout to help build, strengthen, tone and add more flexibility to your body!

Aqua Motion

Keep your body moving with this creative workout geared to tone the whole body with cardio, core, and balance work. This is a lower intensity class.

Aqua Muscle Madness

This AMRAP (As Many Reps As Possible) style class will increase your muscle strength and endurance using 30 seconds of work and 30 seconds of active recovery to give you a total body workout. Suitable for all ages and fitness levels

Barre Fitness

If you are looking to build long, lean muscle this is the class for you!  A comprehensive total body workout that lifts your seat, tones your thighs, abs and arms, and burns fat in record-breaking time. While primarily working these muscles, we always maintain core stability and whole body alignment, making every exercise a full body exercise.  Barre is a great way to tone muscles and burn calories.  Muscles are worked to the point of fatigue and then released through stretching movements to create long, lean muscles.

Body Focus

Increase functional flexibility, joint stability, balance, coordination, agility, muscular strength and cardiovascular endurance. The workout combines aerobic, flexibility and resistance (strength) training using hand-held weights, elastic tubing, and a variety of props. Class is suitable for all levels and ages.

Chair Fit

Chair fit is a gentle movement class tailored toward older adults, beginning exercise participants, and pre/post-natal women who would like to include a low-intensity, low-impact workout to develop strength, flexibility, and balance. The goal of Chair Fit is to keep your body moving and your joints healthy as we enjoy fitness together. Music for this class may include big band, classical, swing, and oldies but goodies. Chairs are provided.

Choreo Step

Choreo Step uses an adjustable platform in order to increase aerobic endurance. It is a high intensity class that consists of intricate choreography. Try out new choreography every 3-4 weeks in this class designed to get your heart rate up and keep it at a steady pace for the entire session.

Cycle Blast

See consistent results while burning calories and improving cardiovascular fitness in this high energy class incorporating a quick plyometric or strength workout within your ride to boost your intensity.  Whether you're a beginner or avid cyclist this class is for you - it's coached to all levels!

Cycling

A high energy 45 minute indoor cycling class led by a motivating instructor and accompanied by the instructor's unique playlist of powerful and energizing music. This class is challenging, fun, and one of the best ways to improve cardiovascular fitness while burning lots of calories. Because cycling is low impact it is suitable for most people, and our classes can accommodate all ability levels.

 

Fit Yoga

A strong discipline including breath control, simple meditation, and the adoption of specific bodily postures, widely practiced for strength, health and relaxation. A regular yoga practice will help transform both your mind and body ultimately helping you find an inner calmness/peace, enhance your balance and stability, and leave you feeling stronger and more centered.

Hatha Yoga

Hatha Yoga is designed for students with a variety of needs who are looking for a safe place to experience the multiple benefits of yoga. Benefits include increased flexibility, greater sense of balance, moderate strengthening, and the ability to be present with your breath. The class is lead at a pace that suits those who may need extra time or assistance in moving in and out of the poses but can also challenge the more experienced yogi. Postures can be adapted for a variety of health conditions.

HIIT 60/45

HIIT 60 is a full hour, HIIT 45 is 45 mins, of total body, heart pumping, aerobic and strength conditioning. This interval-based class combines full-body strength training with high intensity cardio bursts designed to tone your body and improve your endurance. Modifications for all fitness levels are provided.

Hydro Strength

Increase your exercise capacity in this class that uses power moves to strengthen and tone while remaining in a low impact environment.

Interval Ride

This cycling class will focus on speed, strength, tempo, and timing while incorporating strength and toning drills for complete strength, endurance, and core training.

Kickboxing

This class is a combination of cardio, boxing and martial arts providing a total body workout which aims to improve strength, aerobic fitness, speed, flexibility, coordination and balance.

Mat Pilates

This mat workout is based on techniques developed by Joseph Pilates which includes concentrated work on core strength, body alignment and muscular balance. The overall goal of Pilates is to lengthen and tone the muscles of the core without adding bulk. If you are looking for that long, lean dancer body this is the class for you!

Muscle Conditioning

Work your muscles in every way possible in this class designed to build strength, add definition, increase your bone density, and decrease your body fat by increasing your lean muscle. Research has proven that by adding lean muscle to the body you can speed up your metabolism and burn more calories when you work out and at rest. You will use a variety of equipment to change the shape of your body. No muscle gets neglected in this class! MC Plus includes an additional 15 minutes of training.

Muscle Mix

This class is a great way to combine strength and endurance using a mix of fitness techniques to keep your body challenged. This non- stop blend of strength and cardio exercises is just right when you're looking for results!

Power Abs

This 45 minute Pilates inspired class offers the perfect core strengthening solution. Concentrated abdominal and core floor-work is paired with deep restorative stretching to improve your posture and alignment, increase endurance and flexibility and create a balanced overall strength.

Power Pilates

Get the benefits of a traditional mat method Pilates class but at a faster pace and more advanced level. Use resistance bands with some exercises to increase intensity. Strengthen your abs and burn fat as you lengthen and tone your muscles and increase your flexibility.

 

Step Blast

Step Blast is a high intensity step class utilizing the latest step choreography and rhythm-based patterns. Try out new choreography every 3-4 weeks in this class designed to get your heart rate up and keep it at a steady pace for the duration of the class.

Tabata

The Tabata protocol is a high-intensity training regimen that produces remarkable results. A Tabata workout is interval training of 20 seconds of maximum intensity exercise followed by 10 seconds of rest repeated without pause 8 times for a total of four minutes. The types of exercise vary, lifts, jumps, running, squats and core training to name a few. Round time lengths may vary however the concept of Tabata is maintained in this 45 minute class.

Tai Chi

Tai Chi is a martial art. When practiced at a slow pace it has many health benefits and becomes a moving meditation. It is a slow and gentle movement of the body, mind, and spirit. It increases balance and stability, stimulates circulation and vital organs, improves breathing, and revitalizes the body and brain. Tai Chi is about softening our lives. Healing hearts, minds, and bodies, Tai Chi brings us together and then sends us on our way. Tai Chi 2 is the next level of flow, for those that have mastered Tai Chi.

Weekend Warrior

Weekend Warrior is inspired by traditional Chinese martial arts. This class offers a total body workout focused on strength and flexibility. For most, it will build your skills and confidence and energize your practice. Zero equipment or martial arts experience necessary.

Yoga

A morning yoga class to help awaken and rejuvenate your body for the rest of the day. Come enjoy the sensation of starting your day off with a sense of peace, calmness, strength, energy and revitalization!

Yoga Flow

In Yoga Flow, we come into the breath and quiet the mind as we find steadiness in asana and attain increased balance and an enhanced connection to our self. Each class provides personal modifications and emphasizes integrating mind, body, energy, and breath–all within a playful, supportive environment. All levels of practice are welcome.

Zumba ® Fitness

Ditch the workout and join the party! This fun and easy to follow cardio dance class combines high-energy and motivating Latin music with unique moves and combinations that make you feel like you are partying on the dance floor.  A total workout, combining all elements of fitness – cardio, muscle conditioning, balance and flexibility, boosted energy and a serious dose of awesome each time you leave class.
