American Red Cross Shallow Water Lifeguard Certification

Get certified to work as a lifeguard this summer! This American Red Cross course covers lifeguarding for water depths up to 7 feet. Led by instructor Danise McClung, this three-day intensive program provides the necessary skills and certification to respond to aquatic emergencies.

Course Details

  • Dates: April 18, 25, and 26

  • Time: 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM (Daily)

  • Location: CHRISTUS HWC Pool

  • Cost: $250 per student

Prerequisites and Requirements

Participants must be at least 15 years old by the start of the course. A mandatory swim test will be conducted on the first morning, Saturday, April 18. Students must pass this test to continue with the certification.

The swim test includes:

  1. 300-Yard Continuous Swim: 6 full laps of the pool using nonstop freestyle or breaststroke.

  2. Water Tread: A 2-minute nonstop tread using only the legs.

What to Bring

The course runs all day, so please come prepared with the following items each day:

  • Swimsuit and towel

  • A complete change of dry clothes

  • A packed lunch and water bottle
